Film review
Valerie & Sid - Director: Angelo Bell Hot women with guns? Yes, that may be a fact of this short film, but after viewing the dailies and rough cut, it is plain to see that this film is so much more. It's subject matter is timely in light of the recent California legislature regarding immigration and the under-the-radar multi-million dollar illegal immigration transport business in the United States. In V&S our unlikely heroines are caught up in the slave trade with deadly circumstances. In this show everyone is a victim AND a bad guy, but all are redeemed with the director's soft touch. Kimberly Prendez is convincing as the Cuban refugee gone bad and intent on murder to avenge her people. Jodimarie Reynolds plays the conscientiously removed secretary of a bad dude and her employment thrusts her into the midst of a vigilante group hell bent on revenge. V&S is dutifully shot in close quarters by DP Gabriel Diniz, the cinematographer of Kissing Katie Holmes and the AC for the bound for film festivals, Monkey Man. www.319prods.com/valerieandsid/
